Pet Sematary is an upcoming American supernatural horror film adaptation of the novel of the same name by Stephen King, previously adapted into a 1989 film. It is directed by Kevin Kölsch and Dennis Widmyer, and stars Jason Clarke, Amy Seimetz, and John Lithgow. It is set to be released on April 5, 2019. Pet Sematary follows “a doctor who moves his family out of the big city to the country. There he discovers that they have moved near a pet cemetery that rests on an ancient burial ground, and when his toddler son is killed in an auto accident, he takes the boy’s body to the cemetery, where it is resurrected in demonic form
In March 2010, it was announced that a remake was in the works, with Matt Greenberg (writer of another King adaptation, 1408) writing the screenplay. In October 2013, Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Steven Schneider were revealed to be producing the remake with Juan Carlos Fresnadillo in talks to direct the remake.
On December 7, 2017, it was announced that Paramount Pictures had greenlit a new adaptation of Stephen King’s novel Pet Sematary to be directed by Dennis Widmyer and Kevin Kolsch based off a script by Jeff Buhler. Producers are set to include Di Bonaventura, Mark Vahradian, and Steven Schneider.
